Madhya Pradesh assembly budget session from February 22

BHOPAL: The budget session of Madhya Pradesh assembly is likely to be held from February 22 to March 26. The proposed session will be the longest amid Covid-19 situation in the state.
The state legislative affairs department has forwarded a proposal to convene the session to the Raj Bhawan. Acting governor Anandiben Patel has released an official notification for the session, on Friday.
Even as the number of coronavirus cases has considerably reduced, the assembly secretariat has been instructed to hold the session under strict Covid protocol. The MLAs and officials of the assembly secretariat have been asked to follow Covid guidelines and social distancing norms. Use of face mask and hand sanitizers will be mandatory. The secretariat has also asked for Covid negative report from participants.
According to Awadhesh Pratap Singh, principal secretary of the assembly, during the 33-day long session, 24 sittings of the house will take place. The session will begin with the address of the governor. The house will also pass the state budget for the financial year 2021-22 during the session. Apart from approving the state budget, which is likely to be of around Rs 2 lakh crore, the house will also elect a new speaker and deputy speaker during the session.
During the previous financial year, the state government had presented a budget of Rs 1.84 lakh crore and a supplementary budget of Rs 14,000 crore in view of Covid-19 crisis. Sources said that due to Covid-19, the central government had reduced the debt limit for the states by two per cent. This has resulted in a shortfall of Rs 18,000 crore in Madhya Pradesh. The budget tabled in the house is likely to be the same as presented during the previous financial year, said sources.
The house will also clear more than a dozen bills and ordinances. The session will also convene Question Hour, Zero Hour, Call Attention, Adjournment Motion and other government business which were postponed during the previous monsoon session. The last date of submitting proposals for private bills will be February 24 while for the private resolution, it will be February 11. Information related to other businesses can be submitted till February 16, said an official in the assembly secretariat.
