Wasim Jaffer, the former India opener was at his comedic best when he took down Michael Vaughan on Twitter with a hilarious jab. Vaughan was comparing the popularity and greatness of Virat Kohli and Kane Williamson and mentioned that Williamson is as good as Kohli with the bat, but you can’t say it on social media.
Both Indian captain Virat Kohli and New Zealand captain Kane Williamson are considered to be one of the modern batting greats. Kohli has nearly 23,000 runs for India across formats with 70 centuries, while Williamson has over 15,000 runs in international cricket with 37 centuries across formats.
The two are even part of the ‘Fab four’ modern great batsmen of the world along with England’s Joe Root and Australia’s Steve Smith.
If Kane Williamson Was Indian, He Would Be The Greatest Player In The World: Michael Vaughan
Vaughan known for his controversial and often instigating statements said that Williamson deserves to be rated as highly as Kohli, but he isn’t because the latter is an Indian.
“If Kane Williamson was Indian, he would be the greatest player in the world. But he’s not because you’re not allowed to say that Virat Kohli is not the greatest, because you’d get an absolute pelting on social media. So, you all say Virat is the best purely to get few more clicks and likes, few more numbers following here. Kane Williamson, across formats, is equally the best. I think the way he plays, the calm demeanor, his humbleness, the fact that he is silent about what he does,” Vaughan told Spark Sport.
“Kane Williamson has mostly had success. I’m not just saying it because I’m speaking to you guys in New Zealand but I think Kane Williamson is right up there with the great players across the three formats and certainly matches Virat Kohli. It’s just that he doesn’t have the 100 million followers on Instagram and doesn’t earn the $30-40 million or whatever Virat gets every year for his commercial endorsements,” he added.
Vaughan’s comments came a month before Kohli and Williamson will clash in the final of the inaugural ICC World Test Championship (WTC) in Southampton starting June 18.
Extra Ungli Hrithik Ke Paas Hai Par Karta Michael Vaughan Hai: Wasim Jaffer
However, Vaughan’s comments didn’t sit well with Wasim Jaffer, who in his quick and dry wit, came up with an absolute ripper of a retort. Using the full Mumbai lingo, Wasim Jaffer mentioned the extra appendage that Indian actor Hrithik Roshan possesses, but said that it is used more by Michael Vaughan to instigate fans.
“Extra ungli Hrithik ke paas hai par karta Michael Vaughan hai Slightly smiling face #ViratKohli #KaneWilliamson,” Wasim Jaffer tweeted.
